Digital Speech Therapy Materials Are Reshaping How Children Learn to Communicate at Home and in the Classroom

Cuttack, Odisha, October, 2026

Walnut Early Supports is highlighting a change happening in speech therapy: alongside printed worksheets and flashcards, more therapists, teachers, and parents are now turning to digital materials that children can use anywhere, on any screen. This is changing the way speech-language pathologists (SLPs), teachers, and parents work together to help children with communication and developmental needs.

In the past, therapy materials mostly stayed on paper. A child would practice a skill at school, but that same material often wasn't available at home. A therapist might spend hours each week cutting out cards or printing worksheets, only for a page to get lost or a set to run out. Digital speech therapy materials solve this problem. Children can now use the same activities in the clinic, in the classroom, and at home, which helps them keep practicing consistently, without anyone needing to carry paper back and forth.

Walnut Early Supports offers a digital library with more than 4,500 materials, built by certified SLPs. The library covers seven areas of a child's development: language, speech sounds, reading, thinking skills, social and emotional growth, sex education, and fluency. Everything works directly in a web browser, so there is nothing to download or print.

This makes the materials easy to use in a therapy session, a classroom, or a teletherapy call on platforms like Zoom or Google Meet. Many of the materials use pictures instead of only words, so they can be used with children who speak different languages. Activities are also organized by a child's developmental level rather than just their age, so a therapist, teacher, or parent can find something that actually matches where the child is right now.

For therapists, this can save preparation time. Instead of building materials from scratch before each session, they can open ready-made activities and spend more time working directly with the child.

For parents, the same materials make it easier to continue practice at home in between therapy sessions. This is meant to support the work a child is already doing with their therapist, not to replace professional therapy.

For schools, teachers and special educators can use the same resources to support children with different learning needs in the classroom, including inclusive and special-needs settings.

Walnut Early Supports has been recognized in a few notable ways. The company was incubated at NSRCEL, the startup program run by IIM Bangalore. It is also used by AIISH Mysore, a respected institute for speech and hearing. The platform was formally recognized at an event by the Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha. More than 1,200 professionals and families currently use the library.

The company says its goal is to make sure a child does not lose progress simply because they moved from one room, or one setting, to another. A skill practiced in a therapy session on Monday should still be easy to practice at home on Tuesday, using the same materials and the same approach.

About Walnut Early Supports: Walnut Early Supports was founded by Anima Mishra, Saurav Agarwal, Pragati Shatapathy, and Aparna VS. Drawing on that founding team's experience, the platform was built with Indian children, families, and multilingual settings in mind.

“We are building toward a future where the support a neurodiverse child receives is not determined by where they live, what language they speak, or what resources happen to be available around them.”
